Some of our welcoming functions are: assisting the ushers in welcoming members and visitors at the door and making sure that everyone has a name tag. If it’s a visitor we ensure that they have a name tag with their first name, offer them a Welcome Sheet with information about our church, and introduce and seat them with a member who will assist them with any questions they may have about the service.
We maintain the Welcome Sheets and pens and pencils in the chair pockets, and the green Welcome Packets, and see that they are up-to-date and readily available to everyone. We put Luther’s Small Catechism in every Welcome Packet.
We print the name tags for members and for visitors. We notify the office to print the book plates that are placed in the Bibles from Discipleship and presented by one of us to new member families. We see that photos are taken of new members and posted on the back bulletin board.
We place yellow roses on the altar to welcome newborn babies and tie a pink or blue ribbon around the vase.
We are evolving the evangelism component all the time. Evangelism is getting out the word about our Savior, Jesus Christ, and our congregation, Word of God Lutheran Church, sharing this with people everywhere. We contact the newspapers and present them with pictures and articles about our activities. We maintain the WoG Facebook page, posting pictures and information about WoG activities.
We welcome any suggestions and are always looking for new members. If you want more information on the Welcoming/Evangelism Ministry Team, please contact any of its members: Margie Bell, Geary Kent, Holly Bowler, Joe Bowler, Pam Davis, Dyann Roberts, Nancy Ruck, Mathew Ruck, Ted Thomas, Sandy Thomas, and Gwyn Wilson.
